Per ounce, espresso is stronger. It has around 50-60mg of caffeine in one ounce. Coffee has less caffeine per ounce, but you usually drink more of it. 6oz of coffee has 120-180mg of caffeine. So, simple answer: espresso has more per ounce, but coffee has more per serving.

Espresso is a much more concentrated drink. Way too strong for me.

Go to starbucks and get a Red Eye--its a reg coffee with a shot of espresso. They will give you an energy high.

Espresso refers not to the beans, but to the way in which the coffee is prepared. They can both be made from the same type of coffee beans, but because of the way espresso is made (under pressure, as opposed to in a drip pot, for example), it is more concentrated, and therefore stronger. That said, some beans and roasts are stronger than others. Either way, if you drink a full cup of espresso, you're going to feel a heck of a lot perkier than if you drank a regular old cup of drip coffee.

Definitely espresso... because regular coffee beans are not strong at all.
