Why do people go to coffee shops at night?

Question: Why do people go to coffee shops at night?

When did coffee turn from a morning pick- me- upper to a nighttime snack? I think it's kind of odd anyone would want a highly caffeinated beverage to drink so late before bed.

Everyone relaxes in their own way. Some go to bars, some of those drive after. Caffeine may not affect everyone the same, but they could get a decaf to relax, socialize, or surf the web without their spouse having something to do for them ;) I make my own coffee at home, so I don't go to coffee shops, but I'd rather meet friends or business associates at a coffee shop than a bar. Besides, coffee shops are quiet; most social locations are noisy & make it difficult to unwind. And driving caffeinated is safer than driving drunk.

I can sleep after drinking coffee, I guess I built up a resistance, in order to get the shakes I would have to drink about 5 cups of coffee

They are probably so addicted to the sugar and caffeine they use the rush anytime of the day...like soda and such. They also could meet a date there or just hang out in a coffee shop.

The caffeine doesn't effect everyone, i can sleep like a baby after drinking coffee at any time of day & going out for coffee is just something fun to do late at night i suppose, its a lot better than getting wasted at a bar, lol.

Its more calming at night, and its a better "feeling " in my opinion

It is really relaxing to just sit in a coffee shop at night, maybe listening to music or reading a book. It is just a nice thing to do on a Saturday or Friday night I guess. Also, maybe they go to bed late or the caffeine doesn't affect them. Caffeine actually makes me tired.

I think it's normal to drink coffee at night, but to go to a coffee shop at night is ridiculous. Though sometimes, it is usually to meet friends or to socialize. But for reasons otherwise is unknown. Everyone is different (ex: ppl who eat breakfast at 10 or 11 o' clock at night)

Not all drinks served in coffee shops contain as much caffeine as coffee, some no caffeine at all. At times, though, coffee just feels right at night. I personally drink a lot of coffee in the morning and have a pretty high tolerance for caffeine, so having a cup in the evening doesn't bother me.
