Coffee is loaded with Caffeine, which is not good for your body at all. I recently cut off caffeine completely and had horrible withdrawl. Imagine your body aching and being fatigued all the time. The stuff is downright addicting and does more harm than good. So as a simple answer, yes. |

One day they say it's good for you and the next they say it's bad. I usually hear that 1 to 2 cups a day is okay. In fact, they have said that it could help prevent Alzheimer's. Like someone said, everything in moderation. |

NO. Coffee has been shown, in study after study, to be good for you. It reduces the chances of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Type II diabetes, colon and prostate as well as some other cancers, and has been shown to help repair minor cirrhosis of the liver. It does NOT stunt growth. Yes, caffeine can be a problem for those who are sensitive to it as well as those who drink coffee to wake up and stay awake because they refuse to sleep at night. Yes coffee can stain your teeth if you don't brush often enough (just like tea). An 8oz cup of black coffee has less than 5 calories, so it's also great for diets. Coffee has been shown to help asthmatics. It also contains trigonelline which helps reduce cavities without the fluoride in tea that's bad for your thyroid. Anything in excess is bad; drink enough water and you will die. Now for the 'real' detriments of coffee: Drinking it late at night can mess up your sleep, causing you to need it in the morning, helping you on your way to addiction. Unfiltered coffee (espresso, french press, moka pot, etc. can temporarily raise your bad cholesterol levels. Unfiltered coffee has been shown to contribute to hardening of the arteries as well as other cardio problems in heavy smokers, especially women. It temporarily reduces your body's ability to absorb calcium, so drink your milk an hour before or 2 hours after to get the most out of it. Any caffeine should be avoided by pregnant women. In the early stages it could affect the fetus and in later stages it could cause a miscarriage. And if you do get addicted, withdrawal is uncomfortable and potentially painful. Of course it's nothing like quitting cigarettes or crack and it's usually over in a week. I love coffee. I drink about 70% decaf, so it's not the addiction that keeps me drinking it it's the taste. I buy my coffee green and roast it in batches so it's cheaper and always fresh. I'm always amazed at people who don't drink coffee who are 'experts' on how dangerous it is. It's only really bad for you if you buy one of those 500 calorie coffee-flavored cream shakes at places like Starbucks. |
