Reliable folgers information

Question: Why does starbucks coffee call for 2tbsp. of coffee grounds, and folgers only 1tbsp. of coffee grounds?

I received a trial size bag of Starbucks Houseblend for Christmas, and was wondering why it takes so much coffee to brew a full pot? The recepie on the package calls for 2tbsp. of grounds per six ounces of water. Ive found that Folgers takes only 1 per six ounces of water, and it is also the same with several store brand coffees. I've never been a big fan of starbucks, but it was good coffee. Just thought I'd ask? Maybe I can get the same experience by just doubling the amount of Folgers or store brand??? |

It takes more of Charbucks because if you use the usual amount of their burnt offering you only get a weak burnt tasting cup of dark water in your cup. It needs the extra strength to over power your taste buds attempting to hide the nastiness of the roast... But Comparing it to Floggers is a poor example... Try pitting it against a GOOD Fresh ROasted Coffee bean.. |

1) 2 tsp/ cup is the usual recommendation for good coffee; 1 tsp/ cup works but yields rather weak coffee, good when the taste of the coffee needs to be covered up rather than emphasized. Any vendor of good coffee will recommend 2 tsp/ cup for any coffee. 2) No, Starbucks and Folgers start with different coffees - for example, Starbucks doesn't include any rubbery-tasting robusta coffee - and process them differently. Folgers doesn't roast its coffee much (fuel is expensive) and Starbucks roasts its coffees very dark (it works when drowned in milk like most Starbucks drinks). So if you used 2 tsp/ cup of Folgers you'd get a more intense Folgers taste not a Starbucks taste. |

Yes it is true that starbucks burns their roasted coffee... if you need more... you'll have to by more.. Its marketing..nothing more. |
