Question: Kona coffee information?

(Posted by: Christine W on 2010-04-26 17:02:25)

So my bf and I have always enjoyed good coffee. We just purchased a pricey espresso/ coffee maker. We of course bought several different types of coffees (ground and beans) as well as espresso. One of the types of coffees we got was a kona blend. We noticed that when it brews, the resulting coffee is much lighter in color, as well as tastes. It seems to taste as if it already has cream in it. We are interested in ordering 100 % kona beans but are trying to find additional information about kona coffee. Is it normal for Kona to brew a lighter color? What is the "normal " taste of Kona?

Just get some very good brands like Biggby or Peet's coffee. Don't worry about getting Kona 100% since it's pretty expensive and hard to find. I also like dunkin donuts and Starbucks.

Kona is a rare coffee, most kona coffee are not 100% pure but are actually blends. There is no normal taste for Kona, it will depend on how you brew and blend your coffee, even if you brew it pure, taste will still be subjective. Since you have a coffee maker, I suggest you experiment with different methods of brewing your coffee. Test the taste, and make a record of the process of the brew that you like best. It may take time but once you have perfected your brew, you'll might even surprise yourself.
